GET TO KNOW the beautiful BREE SMITH

Tell us a little bit about yourself and where life is taking you right now!

For the past 8 years I have been modeling full time. I’ve traveled to over 25 countries and lived in 5. I’ve always loved adventure and exploring somewhere new. I recently moved to San Francisco with my partner and can’t wait to explore the city with him. During the pandemic, work slowed and I had more free time to spend on learning new skills. I learned coding, took a course on Y combinator, and worked as a social media account manager.

It looks like you have a huge passion for outdoor activities! What was it like to learn how to cycle and what’s your favorite adventure that your bike has taken you on?

Yes! I love spending time outdoors and in nature. I grew up going on bike rides all the time, it was one of my dad’s favorite things to do. He would take my siblings and I to different trails throughout my hometown and we’d cycle for hours. So last year when the gyms closed, I decided to get back into it. My favorite adventures were right in my backyard, I’d start in Venice Beach and go along the path all the way south to Palos Verdes or north all the way to Little Dume; riding along the coast never got old. Now, since I’ve moved, I get to discover new routes!

What are your favorite ways to practice self-love and self-care?

With my career I’ve always had to be on top of my body, my skin, and maintaining good energy. This created a lot of pressure to be “perfect” and resulted in guilt if I missed a workout or ate a few bad meals. I sensed I was becoming unhappy living life like this, so I started educating myself on alternative approaches. I dove into topics like how the brain works and became really in tune with my body and what I was feeling. For me, self-love and self-care means listening to what my body needs. And when I stopped putting pressure on myself, I started enjoying things I was previously dreading.

What motivates you to work hard? Favorite thing about your career?

What motivates you to work hard? Favorite thing about your career?

Good question. I’ve thought a lot about this and I’ve honed in on a few factors that drive me to work hard: a mission I am passionate about and is fulfilling, while also being able to physically see the results of my work. One of my favorite things about my job is meeting people from all over the world and learning about their culture and how they got to where they are now.

Who do you look up to as a mentor?

My partner, Max, because not only is he intelligent but he's also a great listener. He has taken the time to understand me and my thought process to help me approach situations in an authentic way. He's very much a technical thinker whereas I can be more emotional. Since we have very different career paths, we can bounce ideas off of each other.

Do you have any favorite natural skincare and makeup products?

I love Eminence for skincare and Ilia for makeup.

A mantra you live by?

Yoga is sacred to me. I’m always trying to make enough space for my own daily yoga practice which I don’t show on social media, so that I can fully be present and surrender my ego. I feel like in this time and age we often forget the true principles of yoga and only see these mesmerizing poses, and the ego keeps feeding off of that. So right now, what I’m trying to do is coming back to reason why I started yoga in the first place, because it made me feel good and helped me to relax, and not to get into any advanced poses at all.
