Tell us a little bit about yourselves & your friendship! How did you meet?

To give a little background on ourselves, Jo is originally from Seattle and moved down to SoCal to attend Chapman University, she now works in sales at a large Tech Company. Jacqs is originally from NorCal, and she came down to Orange County to also attend Chapman University. She moved to Nashville last year! As we mentioned, we both went to the same college which is where our friendship slowly blossomed.

Although we both knew one another, we didn’t have an instant friendship. We’re one year a part so we had different immediate friend groups but would casually hang out at pre-games, at the local bar on Thursday nights, during sorority stuff, etc. We shared a lot of similar interests but it really wasn’t until we both worked at a tech company in Irvine post-grad, that our friendship really blossomed. At Houzz, we both worked in sales and would choose to get into the office super early (like around 6:30 am). We got into a routine of going to fitness studios together after work and our love for working out created a strong bond; eventually we just became obsessed with one another. We realized we had even more in common that we had thought, and shared very similar values and goals.

That’s when S&T formed! More on that later in this blog post. Sometimes the best people are already in your life and you don’t even realize it yet, it’s just a matter of timing!

Why did you choose to start Sweat & Tell?

We started Sweat & Tell in January of 2018, as a way of spreading positivity and encouragement to those on their fitness journey. We created this platform to provide real reviews, inspiration, and tips to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle. You can typically find us at a fitness studio, our fav happy hour or relaxing on the beach. We’re so grateful that we get to cultivate a positive platform for all of you to enjoy. It truly means more to us than you could imagine. Thank you for all of your support!

What's it like balancing influencer life while also having a corporate job?

This is definitely a tricky balance. It is something we must consistently reevaluate as our business grows and we try to be very self aware of. The biggest thing we have found that helps us is planning. We schedule everything out in both our google calendars and planners to make sure nothing slips through the cracks. We like to plan out our weeks on Sundays to ensure that we’re being as efficient and productive as possible in our day to day. We both follow a pretty strict morning routine!

What do you think the biggest misconception of being an influencer is?

What do you think the biggest misconception of being an influencer is?

That it’s easy - this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Influencers are some of the hardest working people we know and they are essentially running an entire business either completely by themselves or with the help of a small team. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes that many people don’t even realize, like contract negotiations, accounting, content creation and so much more. You wear many hats so you need to have excellent time management skills and be able to stay self-motivated!

3 favorite ways to stay active and healthy during quarantine?

DAILY WALKS! We can’t say this enough - one of the biggest silver linings out of quarantine has been the ability to take walks during the day, especially in the mornings. We’ve taken advantage of the time we’d usually spend commuting, to go on a walk and unplug.

Fall in love with cooking! Take time to enjoy the process of cooking a meal, even if it is simple. Maybe even give a meal kit delivery service a try to start! Learn how whole foods and complete ingredients can make a killer meal.

Schedule in your at home workouts just like you would if they are a fitness class where you’d have to pay a cancellation fee! Keep yourself accountable by sticking with designated workout times, especially when things are busy. This time is crucial to both your mental and physical health.

What's your biggest life-hack when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle?

Prioritize your health and wellness, like you would if it were work, and schedule it into your calendar for the week ahead. We like to plan out our workouts, meals, meditations, etc. and write them into our planners on Sunday evenings

Jo - favorite small businesses to support in Orange County?

Oh my gosh, there are too many to list but I’ll try to condense my list!

Health/fitness - Of course, all of our favorite local fitness studios like Caz Training and Trim Fitness!

Food - Haute Cakes for breakfast, Flower Child for a fast casual lunch or dinner and CookieLab, which has the best cookies made with clean ingredients (we actually just launched a cookie collab with them!).  Click here to check it out.

Jacqs - favorite small businesses to support in Nashville?

Nashville has so much to offer from good food to a great time! It is hard to narrow it down, but here are a few of my absolute favorite small businesses in Nash.

Health/fitness - Pure Sweat Sauna Studio or their Hydro Lounge and SculptHouse (pilates/treadmill).

Fashion - ABLE: Incredible leather goods, 12 South - This is an area in Nash, not a specific store. There are tons of local boutiques and Antique stores that are incredible!

Food: Radish Kitchen - healthy/fast salads and bowls, Five Daughters - the BEST donuts, Proper Bagel.

We love you, Sweat & Tell!!

Yoga is sacred to me. I’m always trying to make enough space for my own daily yoga practice which I don’t show on social media, so that I can fully be present and surrender my ego. I feel like in this time and age we often forget the true principles of yoga and only see these mesmerizing poses, and the ego keeps feeding off of that. So right now, what I’m trying to do is coming back to reason why I started yoga in the first place, because it made me feel good and helped me to relax, and not to get into any advanced poses at all.

Favorite pre/post-workout snack?

We love smoothies post workout! Such an easy way to fuel your body with nutrients and protein post-workout! Our fav classic combo is: Half a frozen banana, a few berries, peanut butter, almond milk, spinach, and an optional scoop of protein!
